After upsetting the eighth-ranked team in the nation on their home court last Friday, McKendree jumps to No. 2 in this week’s Division II coaches poll.
No. 1 Lewis received all 13 first place votes this week, the eighth consecutive week they have done so.
Depsite losing a #CincoSets match to Ball State, the Flyers remain atop the Division II coaches poll. Lewis also defeated Purdue Fort Wayne in #CincoSets. In these two matches, the Flyers had two of their three worst performances as a team in terms of attacking percentage. Lewis hosts No. 2 McKendree and Ohio State this weekend.
No. 2 McKendree went 2-1 in the BYU Invitational this past weekend. Yesterday, setter Ryan Serrano was honored as Off the Block’s National Freshman of the Week. on the strength of his 92 assists and 22 digs over the weekend. This weekend, the Bearcats jump back into MIVA play as they travel to Loyola and No. 1 Lewis.
No. 3 Barton went 3-0 last week, and has won 11 straight. The Bulldogs rank third in the nation in attack percentage and fourth in the nation in opponent attack percentage. This week, Barton travels to Mount Olive before hosting Belmont Abbey and Queens.
No. 4 Concordia-Irvine has won seven of their last nine matches, including going 2-1 last weekend in Arizona. Libero Addison Enriques leads the MPSF with 2.11 digs per game, and had a combined 27 digs last week. The Eagles host three matches this week, starting with No. 1/1 Hawai’i tonight. They continue their homestand with a couple of conference matches – versus No. 10/10 BYU and No. 6/6 Stanford.
No. 5 Lincoln Memorial went 3-0 last week, including a come-from-behind #CincoSets victory at Belmont Abbey. Middle attacker Pedro Carvalho had 19 blocks combined in the three matches. The Railsplitters, winners of eight of their last nine, have one regular season match remaining – a road match on Friday versus Erskine.
For the first time in the history of Division II coaches poll, UC San Diego is not ranked. The Tritons received eight points, while King received two and Charleston received one.
Both NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II men’s volleyball programs compete for the same national championship. The AVCA National Coaches Poll ranks the top 15 Division I-II men’s volleyball teams and is released each Monday during the regular season.
A national voting committee comprised of coaches from the more than 20 Division II teams determines the weekly rankings for the Division II National Coaches Poll.
Off the Block is a website that launched in 2011 and is the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage.
