Concordia-Irvine re-enters the Division II coaches poll

After a couple of weeks out of the Division II coaches poll, Concordia-Irvine is back – tied at No. 4 with UC San Diego.

No. 1 Lewis received all 10 first place votes this week, something they have achieved eight times out of ten weeks this season.

Lewis has won nine straight matches, including their last two on the road versus Princeton and NJIT. The Flyers are also all alone in first place in the MIVA. Setter Matt Yoshimoto had three aces on the trip to New Jersey, and leads the nation with 0.688 aces per game. Lewis hosts Loyola this Saturday, a rematch of the March 1 match where the Flyers won in four games at Gentile Arena.

No. 2 Barton was off this past weekend, but continues conference play this weekend by traveling to Erskine and Emmanuel. Barton is fifth nationally with a 0.326 attack percentage, while middle attacker Justice Lord is third in the nation with 1.364 blocks per game.

No. 3 McKendree swept Quincy at home this past Friday, and travels to Lindenwood this coming Friday. The Bearcats are fourth nationally with 2.52 blocks per game.

No. 4 UC San Diego lost in #CincoSets at No. 4 Concordia-Irvine before being swept by Stanford at home. Opposite Collin Shannon led the Tritons with 21 kills and five blocks. Later today, the Tritons host Lindenwood before taking off the next couple of weekends.

No. 4 Concordia-Irvine won four matches at home last week against, St. Katherine, Dominican, Ottawa (Arizona), and No. 4 UC San Diego. Outside attacker Raymond Barsemian had 41 kills in two of those matches, while middle attacker Noah Lassandro had 16 kills in three of those matches. Tomorrow, the Eagles host next-door neighbor UC Irvine before traveling up the freeway to USC on Saturday.

Also receiving votes this week are Lincoln Memorial, Charleston, King, and North Greenville.

Both NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II men’s volleyball programs compete for the same national championship. The AVCA National Coaches Poll ranks the top 15 Division I-II men’s volleyball teams and is released each Monday during the regular season.

A national voting committee comprised of coaches from the more than 20 Division II teams determines the weekly rankings for the Division II National Coaches Poll.

Off the Block is a website that launched in 2011 and is the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage.

The Division II National Coaches Poll will be released on the Off the Block website every Tuesday during the regular season.
