What to know: Pepperdine lost in #CincoSets in their previous meeting this season on February 27 in Westwood, so a Pepperdine sweep or win in four games would give the Waves the head-to-head tiebreaker. Both teams are separated in the standings by No. 10/10 BYU who travels to Concordia-Irvine and No. 9/9 USC this weekend. The Waves and Bruins each hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Cougars by virtue of games won. Winning the conference will not only guarantee home court advantage in the MPSF tournament, but also give that team a first-round bye in the tournament. Outside attacker Austin Matautia had 22 kills in the February 27 match, but will miss the rematch as he went down with a season-ending injury on March 9 versus Penn State. In the reverse sweep, the Bruins attacked at a .531 clip in the last three games, and setter Micah Ma’a had a season-high 60 assists. Pepperdine started off the match strong with seven blocks in the first game, but only had six in the final four games. The teams are as close as their records would indicate – UCLA is No. 3 in the most recent RPI rankings, while Pepperdine is No. 5. Pepperdine leads the conference in assists/game (12.59), digs/game (9.40), kills/game (13.39), while UCLA leads the conference in aces/game (1.55) and attack percentage (.326). The Waves are led by senior duo, outside attacker David Wieczorek and opposite Michael Wexter, who are the top two Waves in terms of aces/game, attacks/game, attack percentage, kills/game, and points/game. The Bruins are led by senior setter Micah Ma’a, who ranks third in the nation with 0.598 aces/game, and tenth in the nation with 9.90 assists/game. Ma’a is also in the only in Division I-II to record a triple-double this season – he had 15 kills, 15 digs, and 44 assists in a loss to BYU on March 14. Junior middle attacker Daenen Gyimah is the nation’s leading in attack percentage at .512.
