Despite a five-game loss to North Greenville, Barton remains No. 2 in the latest Off the Block Division II National Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.
No. 1 Lewis received all 15 first place votes this week.
Lewis split a pair of home matches last weekend – defeating Penn State but losing to UCLA. The Flyers out-hit both opponents, and were individually led by Ryan Coenen’s 22 kills and Julian Moses’s 20 kills. This coming weekend, the Flyers start MIVA conference play on the road by visiting Lindenwood and Quincy.
No. 2 Barton lost to North Greenville on Saturday after beating Limestone the night before. The Mandilaris brothers (Angelos and Vasilis) combined for 68 kills this weekend. The Bulldogs are off this week before playing three matches next week.
No. 3 UC San Diego went 2-1 last week by defeating No. 4 Concordia-Irvine in #CincoSets as well as UC Santa Cruz, but lost to Princeton.
The Tritons were led in kills in each match by sophomore outside attacker Wyatt Harrison, who had 52 kills for the week. UC San Diego starts Big West conference play this coming weekend with a home-and-home with UC Irvine.
Concordia-Irvine went 1-1 last week, by defeating UC Santa Cruz but losing to UC San Diego. The Eagles were led by Jordan Hoppe’s 32 kills in those two matches. This coming weekend, Concordia-Irvine starts MPSF play by welcoming Grand Canyon.
No. 5 Lincoln Memorial played just one match last weekend – a loss at Ohio State. The Railsplitters were led by opposite Evan Cory’s 21 kills. This weekend, Lincoln-Memorial travels to King before hosting Coker and Erskine.
Also receiving votes this week are McKendree, North Greenville, and Lindenwood
Both NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II men’s volleyball programs compete for the same national championship. The AVCA National Coaches Poll ranks the top 15 Division I-II men’s volleyball teams and is released each Monday during the regular season.
A national voting committee comprised of coaches from the more than 20 Division II teams determines the weekly rankings for the Division II National Coaches Poll.
Off the Block is a website that launched in 2011 and is the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage.
The Division II National Coaches Poll will be released on the Off the Block website every Tuesday during the regular season.
