The dream weekend ended with a tournament championship.
Barton remained undefeated in tournament play as it swept Quincy 25-14, 25-21, 29-27 in the Battle of the Molten Golden Volleyball on Sunday to become the 2019 champions of the Off the Block Grow the Game Challenge presented by MotorMVB.
The Bulldogs entered this trophy match on the final day of the Grow the Game Challenge after upsetting No. 15 Grand Canyon and USC earlier in the weekend. Those victories were the first time in Barton’s program history that it defeated a nationally ranked team and a team that previously won a NCAA championship.
All-conference outside attacker Vasilis Mandilaris had eight kills on a team-best .538 attack percentage against Quincy en route to being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Opposite Angelos Mandilaris also led all players with 11 kills while hitting .333 in the Bulldogs’ first win versus a MIVA opponent this season.
Outside attacker Omari Wheeler in the loss had a team-high nine kills but was held to a negative-.133 attack percentage.
Barton middle attacker Justice Lord finished with a match-high six blocks to help keep Quincy to less than a .150 attack percentage in the non-conference match.
