Add a weekly honor on top of beating two ConfCarolinas opponents for Lincoln Memorial opposite Evan Cory.

Off the Block announced Monday that Cory was selected for the Off the Block Independent Teams Player of the Week.

Cory finished with both a match-high six aces and 15 kills on .407 attack percentage in a four-game victory against Belmont Abbey on Saturday. The 2018 All-Independent Team selection also led all players with 17 kills and hit .464 as Lincoln Memorial swept Mount Olive on Sunday to extend its winning streak to three matches.

Along with these wins versus ConfCarolinas opponents, Cory had a match-high 13 kills and five aces in a season-opening sweep against Campbellsville on Friday.

This is the second time in the Railsplitters’ three-year program history that they won back-to-back matches versus ConfCarolinas teams.

The Independent Teams Player of the Week recognizes the best player during the week from NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball teams that are competing without a conference affiliation. The five independent teams this season are Alderson Broaddus, Coker, Daemen, Lincoln Memorial and Queens.

Off the Block determines the Independent Teams Player of the Week based on a variety of factors, including a player’s individual performance and how a player’s team fared during the week.

The winner of the Independent Teams Player of the Week is unveiled every Monday during the regular season on the Off the Block website, offtheblockblog.com.

Off the Block is a national award winning website that started in 2011 and is the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage.
