BYU outside attacker named National Freshman of Week

One week into his college career BYU David Gardini already has two wins against nationally ranked opponents and now a national award.

Off the Block announced Monday that Gardini was selected as the Off the Block National Freshman of the Week.

Gardini in his college debut had 13 kills on .417 attack percentage as No. 5/5 BYU swept No. 7/7 Ohio State on Thursday. The freshman from Italy also nine kills while hitting .353 in a sweep against No. 14 Ball State on Saturday.

Gardini is the fourth BYU player to win the National Freshman of the Week since the award started in 2014.

The National Freshman of the Week is presented each week during the regular season to the NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball freshman who had the most outstanding performance. The winner is selected by the Off the Block staff and is announced every Monday during the regular season on the Off the Block website, offtheblockblog.com.

Along with the National Freshman of the Week, Off the Block will present the Freshmen All-American Team at the end of the regular season.
