A nationwide voting committee selected 15 players to the 2019 Off the Block Division III Preseason All-American Team.
The annual preseason honor that was released Thursday recognizes the NCAA Division III men’s volleyball players projected to be the best in the nation during the upcoming season.
The 2018 NCAA Tournament runner-ups Stevens Tech led all schools with three Preseason All-American selections. Both Carthage and NYU were the only other schools to have multiple players earn a spot on the team.
The defending national champions Springfield along with Dominican, Juniata, Kean, Lancaster Bible, Milwaukee Engineering, Stevenson and SUNY New Paltz each had one player named a Preseason All-American.
Players eligible for the Preseason All-American Team had to be on an active roster of a Division III men’s volleyball team.
The 12-member voting committee for the preseason award was comprised of Division III men’s volleyball head coaches from around the nation.
Kean setter Ian Capp was the committee’s only unanimous selection to the Preseason All-American Team. Capp was a Second-Team All-American and the CVC Setter of the Year in 2018 as he helped lead Kean to its seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
Six players — NYU’s Alex Li, Stevens Tech’s Dylan DeBoer and David Lehman, Lancaster Bible’s Nate Miller, Juniata’s Quinn Peterson and Stevenson’s Landon Short — were all one vote shy of being unanimous Preseason All-American selections.
This is the fourth season that Off the Block has presented the Division III Preseason All-American Team. Off the Block is the only volleyball organization to present men’s volleyball Preseason All-American Teams.
Off the Block is a national award winning website that launched in 2011 and is nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage.
The NCAA Division III men’s volleyball season begins in January and concludes with the NCAA Tournament semifinals and finals that will take place April 26-17 at Kean.
