Coach John Cash returned to his roots and landed two all-state recruits for Lincoln Memorial.
The second-year head coach from Ohio announced that high school seniors Justin Sharfenaker and Matthew Gentry have committed to play for the Railsplitters beginning in 2020.
“We are extremely excited to get both Justin and Matt, both hailing from Ohio, into the LMU volleyball family,” Cash said in a statement. “They have been trained well, both in club and at their respective high schools. They are going to have a major impact on our program and the university. Fans will be very excited to see them perform.”
Sharfenaker, a 6-foot-6 opposite from Columbus, Ohio, was a First-Team All-State selection and the Division II Region Player of the Year with his high school team earlier this year. Along with being the 2018 conference player of the year, he enters his senior season with a chance to be a three-time all-region recipient.
Gentry, a 6-foot-7 middle attacker from Hudson, Ohio, has earned all-region honors the last two seasons with his high school team and was an all-state honorable mention in 2018. He also helped his team win a bronze medal at the 2018 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships.
Lincoln Memorial enters its program’s third season and won the 2018 IVA Tournament Championship.
Among the starters returning for the Railsplitters in 2019 includes three All-Independent Team selections — middle attacker Pedro Carvalho, opposite Evan Cory and setter AJ Risavy.
