A former all-conference opposite who helped George Mason reach the NCAA Tournament will join the coaching staff at a fellow EIVA school.
NJIT announced last week that it hired Jack Wilson to be an assistant coach for the upcoming season.
Wilson during his junior season in 2016 earned EIVA All-Tournament honors as the Patriots win their first conference championship in almost 30 years. He also was named a 2017 First-Team All-EIVA selection and concluded his time at George Mason among the school’s top 10 career leaders with both 1,025 kills and 101 aces.
Along with his college experience, Wilson spent last year playing professional volleyball in Finland before retiring because of a shoulder injury.
This will be Wilson’s second season coaching a NCAA men’s volleyball team. In the 2018 season, Wilson helped guide the Division III school Eastern Mennonite to 21 wins.
NJIT finished last season in fifth place in the EIVA. Among the starters returning for the Highlanders includes opposite Alvaro Gimeno, who was named the 2018 EIVA Newcomer of the Year and spent the offseason playing with the Spanish Junior National Team.
