Setter Chandler Gibb showed exactly why he was an All-MPSF selection.
Gibb guided the Concordia-Irvine offense to a .318 attack percentage and had a match-high eight blocks to sweep Grand Canyon 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 in the MPSF Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday in Irvine, California.
The No. 4 seed Concordia-Irvine in its MPSF postseason debut had three players with at least eight kills. Outside attacker Jonathan Predney had a team-high 10 kills, while middle attacker Hunter Howell added eight kills on a .727 attack percentage.
Howell, who ended the regular season in the nation’s top 15 for blocks, had seven blocks against the No. 5 seed Antelopes. Concordia-Irvine out-blocked Grand Canyon 12 to 4.
The Eagles also finished the postseason match with seven aces, including a match-high four aces from outside attacker Raymond Barsemian. In addition, Gibb had two aces and Predney had Concordia-Irvine’s other ace.
Concordia-Irvine following this victory will advance to play the No. 2 seed UCLA in the MPSF Tournament semifinals.
