BYU and UC Irvine became the biggest beneficiaries of Loyola suffering an upset loss.
The Cougars and Anteaters jumped ahead of the Ramblers in the latest RPI rankings that the NCAA released earlier this week.
Loyola following a loss to Lindenwood, which ended the regular season in seventh place in the MIVA, dropped two spots to No. 5 in the RPI.
The RPI is one of the criteria categories the selection committee uses to determine the NCAA Tournament field. A team’s RPI ranking is calculated using a mathematical formula that includes its winning percentage, strength of schedule and opponents’ strength of schedule.
BYU, UC Irvine and Loyola are all among the teams under NCAA Tournament at-large bid consideration if they lose in their conference tournaments, according to the latest Off the Block bracketology. The Cougars enter the postseason at No. 3 in the RPI, while the Anteaters are at No. 4 with two regular season matches remaining.
An updated RPI rankings will be released each Monday throughout the conference tournaments. The final RPI rankings before the NCAA Tournament will be unveiled on Selection Sunday, April 22.
