UC Irvine in the process of getting a non-conference during the weekend dropped out of the top 10 in a selection committee criteria category.
The Anteaters fell two spots to No. 12 in the latest strength of schedule rankings that the NCAA released earlier this week.
Strength of schedule is one of the criteria categories the selection committee uses to determine the NCAA Tournament field. It also is part of a mathematical formula that determines a team’s RPI ranking, along with winning percentage and opponent strength of schedule.
UC Irvine in its final non-conference match of the season swept USC on Saturday. However, the Trojans’ 6-16 record resulted in a decline in the Anteaters’ overall strength of the schedule.
Stanford and George Mason, which is in first place in the EIVA, both moved ahead UC Irvine in the strength schedule rankings.
Besides UC Irvine, the other nine top-10 teams from last week all remained in the top 10 of the new rankings.
UCLA continues to lead all teams in the strength of schedule rankings, while Lewis, USC, Concordia-Irvine and Pepperdine round out the top five. Pepperdine also is ranked No. 1 in the opponent strength of schedule rankings.
The strength of schedule rankings will continue to be updated throughout the regular season and postseason until Selection Sunday on April 22.
