Prior to the match, Pepperdine University President Andrew Benton and Director of Athletics Steve Potts dedicated the Marv Dunphy Volleyball Court in honor of Head Coach Emeritus Marv Dunphy.
UCSB defeated Pepperdine in four sets (28-26, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23), as they were led by Corey Chavers (24 kills) and Roy McFarland (12 kills.) Both teams had 11 blocks leading to both teams being ineffective in their attacks. In the end, the Gaucho serve proved to be too much for the Waves. The key point in the match was when UCSB went on a 7-0 run to turn a 16-10 Pepperdine lead in the fourth set into a 17-16 Gaucho lead. UCSB visits Loyola and Lewis next weekend, while Pepperdine travels to Fairfax, VA to play George Mason and Ball State.
