Loyola signs several of top recruits in Illinois, Arizona, Virginia

Loyola not only was able to land some of the top in-state recruits but several top recruits from the East Coast and Arizona.

Coach Mark Hulse announced Monday that high school seniors Joe D’Attomo, Luke Denton, Mike Herlihy, Andrew Lyons, Ian Piet and Cole Schlothauer have all committed to play for the Ramblers beginning in the 2019 season.

D’Attomo, a 6-foot-7 middle attacker from Winnetka, Illinois, earned high school all-conference earns as a junior last season. He also led his school to the state finals.

Denton, a 6-foot-6 opposite from Mesa, Arizona, earned All-Tournament Team honors at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships this summer. In addition, Denton is a former high school quarterback and the first Arizona player to commit to Loyola during Hulse’s head coaching tenure.

Herlihy, a 6-foot-6 middle attacker from Frankfort, Illinois, is one of two players from Lincoln-Way East High School to commit to the Ramblers. The former basketball player also helped his high school team reach the state finals last season.

Lyons, a 6-foot-7 outside attacker from Norfolk, Virginia, was a three-time all-conference selection and earned all-state honors last season as he led his high school team to the state finals. He also was named a co-caption of the U18’s National Team.

Piet, a 6-foot-1 outside attacker and libero, earned All-Tournament Team honors with his club team at the USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships. He also played on the same high school team as Herlihy and earned all-conference honors as a freshman.

Schlothauer, a 6-foot-5 outside attacker from Mechanivsville, Virginia, was named the 2017 Regional Player of the Year for his performance with his high school team. In addition, Schlothauer is the record holder at his high school for career kills, single-season kills and single-season aces.

Loyola finished last season at No. 14 in the national coaches and advanced to the MIVA Tournament quarterfinals.
