Lindenwood won’t have to travel to for the program’s first all-time meeting against UC San Diego.
The Lions along with revealing its entire schedule for the upcoming season announced they will have a non-conference home match versus the Tritons on Feb. 17.
Both Lindenwood and UC San Diego last season were among the top NCAA Division II teams in the nation.
Lindenwood received votes in the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Division II National Coaches Poll at the start of the season. In addition, the team ended the season in seventh place in the MIVA and almost upset Lewis in the MIVA Tournament quarterfinals.
Among the starters returning for the Lions includes middle attacker Sam Schindler who was a Freshman All-American Team selection and earned votes for the Division II National Player of the Year.
UC San Diego finished last season at No. 2 in the Division II National Coaches Poll. Opposite Tanner Syftestad also returns for his senior season after being named the 2017 Division II National Player of the Year and finishing last season among the nation’s leaders with a 4.21 kills per game average.
The Tritons in the upcoming season will be part of the new men’s volleyball conference. UC San Diego was one of six men’s volleyball teams this offseason to leave the MPSF for the Big West.
This is the second consecutive year that Lindenwood will play host to a team from the West Coast. Lindenwood lost to Hawai’i in three games last season in the school’s first home match against a West Coast school since 2013.
Along with its match against UC San Diego, Lindenwood in the upcoming season will have home non-conference matches against Grand Canyon, Lincoln Memorial, St. Francis and Princeton.
