All-MPSF outside attacker David Wieczorek once again delivered offensively and moved No. 8/8 Pepperdine a step closer to the postseason.
Wieczorek finished with a match-high 17 kills on a .556 attack percentage and added two aces as Pepperdine swept UC San Diego 27-25, 25-20, 25-15 on Thursday in Malibu, California.
The Waves (9-10, 7-9 MPSF) with this victory moved into sixth place in the MPSF and can clinch a berth to the eight-team conference tournament if they win one of their two remaining regular season matches.
This was the fourth consecutive match that Wieczorek had double-digit kills along with hitting more than .300. In addition, Wieczorek entered the match in the nation’s top 10 averaging 3.64 kills per game average.
Setter Soren Dion-Kindem in the senior night sweep had 34 assists and helped Pepperdine out-hit UC San Diego .340 to .125, including the team having a match-best .593 attack percentage in the second game. The senior also led all players with 13 digs and added four blocks against the Tritons.
