What to know: No. 1/1 Ohio State will put its historic winning streak on the line against a team whose serving can rivals its own as one of the nation’s best. The defending NCAA champions will play No. 6/6 UC Irvine as it try to extend its conference-record winning streak to 43 matches. The Buckeyes entered the weekend second in the nation with a 1.83 aces per game average and have at least four aces in all but one match during their undefeated season. All-American outside attacker Nicolas Szerszen also leads the MIVA and is third in the nation with 44 aces, while All-American opposite Miles Johnson is in the nation’s top 15 with 25 aces. UC Irvine is among the national leaders averaging 1.46 aces per game, including having seven aces in a sweep against No. 12/10 Ball State on Friday. All-conference setter Michael Saeta in the non-conference victory led all players with three aces. Seata began the weekend fourth in the nation with a 0.59 aces per game average and has multiple aces in the last three matches. Despite both teams’ serving success, the Buckeyes and Anteaters have more than 300 service errors so far this season. If Ohio State wins this non-conference regular season finale, it will become the first team in the nation to reach 20 wins this season. Ohio State had a season-high .548 attack percentage in a sweep against UC San Diego on Friday to extend its winning streak to 42 matches. In addition, the Buckeyes lead the MIVA and are in the nation’s top five hitting .380. Johnson and Szerszen also are both in the top 10 of the nation averaging at least 4.00 kills per game. Outside attacker Thomas Hodges is among the UC irvine leaders with a 2.76 kills per game average. He also has double-digit kills in seven of the last eight matches, including 10 kills and zero attack errors against Ball State.
No. 2/2 Long Beach State (18-2, 13-1 MPSF) vs. No. 10/9 Loyola (11-6, 6-3 MIVA)

What to know: The reward for No. 10/9 Loyola traveling across the country for a non-conference match — having to go up against one of the most difficult offenses in the nation. No. 2/2 Long Beach State has a nation-best .380 attack percentage as it prepares to play Loyola in the finale of the Asics Tournament. The 49ers have hit more than .400 in eight of the matches during their current 11-match winning streak. In addition, Long Beach State out-hit George Mason .394 to negative-.149 in a sweep against George Mason in the opener of its annual non-conference home tournament on Friday. All-American setter Josh Tuaniga along with guiding the 49ers offense leads the nation with an 11.56 assists per game average. All-American outside attacker TJ DeFalco leads Long Beach State and is seventh in the nation with a 4.12 kills per game average. DeFalco also has double-digit kills in nine straight matches and hit at least .400 in all but one of those matches. Loyola rebounded from an upset loss to Lindenwood last weekend to beat No. 11 CSUN in five games on Friday. The Ramblers in the victory had a season-high 16 blocks, including All-American middle attacker Jeff Jendryk finishing with a match-best eight blocks. Jendryk is also third in the nation with a .476 attack percentage and fourth in the nation at a 1.23 blocks per game average. The Ramblers are attempting to beat a top-five nationally ranked team for the second time this season. Loyola defeated No. 3/3 BYU in four games in the opening the week of the season.
