What to know: There is a reason No. 2/3 Long Beach State is in sole possession of first place– no MPSF team can slow down its offense in recent weeks. Long Beach State will attempt extend its five-match MPSF winning streak and its lead in the MPSF standings as it travels to No. 7/7 UC Irvine. The 49ers are third in the nation with a .356 attack percentage and have hit more than .400 in their last three conference matches. In addition, Long Beach State out-hit No. 8/9 Stanford .418 to .122 on Saturday and committed 10 or fewer attack errors for the third straight match. All-American setter Josh Tuaniga leads the MPSF and is second in the nation with an 11.47 assists per game average. All-American TJ DeFalco also is in the nation’s top 15 averaging 3.87 kills per game average, while opposite Kyle Ensing is in the nation’s top 25 with a 3.42 kills per game average. Ensing has double-digit kills in the team’s last six matches, including a match-high 15 kills on a .462 attack percentage in a sweep versus No. 9/10 Pepperdine last week. Along with the offense, this match will feature two of the top liberos in the MPSF. Long Beach State libero Andrew Sato is fourth in the nation with a 2.74 digs per game average, and UC Irvine libero Dillon Hoffman is seventh in the nation at a 2.59 digs per game average. UC Irvine continues its season-long five-match home stand after suffering a four-game loss to USC last week. Michael Saeta spending time at setter and opposite as coach David Kniffin continues to make starting lineup adjustments has a nation-best 36 aces, In addition, he has at least three aces in UC Irvine’s last five MPSF matches. Freshman middle attacker Scott Stadick is also in the nation’s top 10 with both a .447 attack percentage and a 1.08 blocks per game average.

Limestone (3-2, 3-1 ConfCarolinas) vs. Barton (5-3, 4-1 ConfCarolinas)

What to know: Barton will get its chance to avenge its only conference loss so far this season. The preseason favorites to win the Conference Carolinas will play host to Limestone in a showdown between two teams within a match of first place in the conference standings. Limestone finished with a season-high 13 aces in its four-game home victory against Barton last month. All-conference outside attacker Bruno Kretzschmar led the Saints with four aces against the Bulldogs. Kretzschmar also is in the conference’s top 10 with a 2.79 kills per game average, including a season-high 15 kills on a .357 attack percentage in a five-game loss to North Greenville. This road match will be Limestone’s first match since that loss to the Crusaders 10 days ago. Barton enters this rematch on a two-match winning streak and is in third-place in the conference standings — a half-match out of first place and a half-match ahead of Limestone. Outside attacker Vasilis Mandilaris leads the conference averaging 3.58 kills per game and has double-digit kills in all but one match so far this season. The sophomore also had both a season-high 15 kills and 11 digs in the previous meeting versus the Saints. Along with Mandilaris, Barton setter Federico Pagliara leads the Conference Carolinas and is ninth in the nation with a 10.45 assists per game average.
