What to know: Bring on the rematch — just one day since the epic series opener. No. 4/4 BYU following a five-game overtime victory against No. 2/2 UCLA will now attempt to complete the two-match home series sweep. All-American opposite Ben Patch led all players with a season-high 28 kills on a .422 attack percentage in the series opener. Patch, the 2016 recipient of the Bryan Ivie Award for the nation’s best opposite, entered the weekend leading the nation with a 4.75 kills per game average. Middle attacker Price Jarman also had a team-high four blocks versus the Bruins, including the game-winning blocks in the first-game overtime and the fifth-game overtime. Despite suffering its first conference loss and ending an eight-match winning streak, UCLA out-hit BYU .326 to .268. The Bruins had five players contribute double-digit kills with freshman outside attacker Dylan Missery having a team-high 13 kills. Missery was inserted into the starting lineup because of recent UCLA injuries. The Bruins were without with two injured All-American — outside attacker Jake Arntiz and middle attacker Mitch Stahl. First-place UCLA has more than a .300 attack percentage in all its MPSF matches so far this season and started the weekend second in the nation hitting .357. Along with the UCLA offense, setter Micah Ma’a had a season-high six aces in the loss to BYU. This was the fourth time in a MPSF match this season that the 2016 Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Server of the Year had multiple aces.
