It took almost half of the season but Lewis has finally landed in the top five of the national rankings.
The Flyers received 47 points to jump two spots to No. 5 in the latest Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Media Poll that was released Tuesday.
Lewis won both its conference matches last weekend to move within one match of first place in the MIVA and to extend its home winning streak to seven matches. In addition, Lewis in the media poll jumped ahead of UCLA and Stanford, which both suffered upset losses last week.
This is the first time this season two MIVA teams have been ranked in the top half of the National Media Poll. The defending NCAA champions Ohio State was the unanimous No. 1 ranked team for the seventh consecutive week and remains the only undefeated in the nation.
Along with Ohio State, the rest of the top half of the national rankings remains unchanged with Long Beach State at No. 2, BYU at No. 3 and Hawai’i at No. 4.
The Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Media Poll is the only rankings in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball solely determined by media members. The 10 teams receiving the most votes are ranked in the National Media Poll, while other schools earning votes but finishing outside of the top 10 are considered teams receiving votes.
Off the Block is a website that started in January 2011 and has become the nation’s leader in college men’s volleyball coverage. Springbak, Inc. is the official sponsor of the National Media Poll and produces high performance footwear used by professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB and U.S. Olympic teams and the top college teams in the nation.
