All-MPSF outside attacker David Wieczorek came off the bench to prevent No. 5 Pepperdine from getting upset in its season opener.
Wieczork entering midway through the second game finished with a team-high 19 kills on a .581 attack percentage as Pepperdine rallied from a two-game deficit to beat McKendree 23-25, 18-25, 25-14, 25-21, 15-11 on Wednesday in Malibu, California.

Opposite Maalik Walker in the loss had a match-high 21 kills while hitting .417. McKendree was attempting to beat a top-five nationally ranked team for the first time in its program’s four-year history.
