What to know: The one thing standing in No. 1/1 Ohio State’s way from extending the nation’s longest winning streak 30 matches is the only other men’s volleyball team from a Big Ten school. Undefeated Ohio State will play host to No. 14 Penn State in a non-conference match to begin a three-match home stand. The Buckeyes have a MIVA-best .335 attack percentage and two players averaging more 3.75 kills per game. All-American opposite Miles Johnson leads the MIVA and is eighth in the nation with a 4.00 kills per game average, including having a team-high 11 kills in a sweep against St. Francis on Friday. He also had a combined 41 kills on a .436 attack percentage in two victories versus the Nittany Lions last season. Along with Johnson, All-American outside attacker Nicolas Szerszen is in the nation’s top 15 with a 3.85 kills per game average. The 2016 AVCA National Player of the year also had a combined 10 aces in a two-match series sweep against No. 8/9 Stanford earlier this month. Penn State enters this non-conference match after splitting a two-match weekend home stand with a five-game victory against No. 10/8 Loyola and a five-game loss to No. 6/6 Lewis. Preseason All-American outside attacker Chris Nugent in the two matches had a combined 30 kills. Nugent has double-digit kills in every match so far this season and is in the nation’s top 15 averaging 3.68 kills per game average. Defensively, Penn State libero Royce Clemens is fifth in the nation with a 2.80 digs per game average, including a season-high 15 digs in the victory against Loyola. This will be the first of two matches that Ohio State and Penn State will play against each other as part of their annual home-and-home series. The Buckeyes are on a four-match home winning streak versus the Nittany Lions with their last home loss in the series occurring in 2012.
