For the first time in five years, George Mason will have a chance to get its program’s first victory against USC.
George Mason as part of unveiling its 2017 schedule earlier this week announced that the team will travel across the country for a non-conference road match versus USC on March 13.
The Trojans are 7-0 all-time in the head-to-head series dating back to 1985, including sweeping the Patriots in their last meeting in 2012.
George Mason, though, enters this upcoming season after winning the 2016 EIVA championship and reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in almost 30 years. In addition, all-conference outside attackers Christian Malias and Radoslav Popov along with all-conference libero Johnny Gomez highlights several of the returning starters for the Patriots.
USC ended last season under first-year coach Jeff Nygaard missing the postseason for the second time in almost a decade. However, the Trojans return a majority of starters for the upcoming season, including former Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshmen All-Americans middle attacker Andy Benesh and outside attacker Lucas Yoder.
The non-conference match against USC will conclude a mid-season three-match West Coast road trip for George Mason. The defending EIVA champions will also play Long Beach State and CSUN at the annual Active Ankle Tournament on March 10-11.
