With the Olympic men’s volleyball tournament less than three weeks away, it’s time to start the debate of what was the best U.S. Men’s National Team to compete at the summer games.
Off the Block has seed the 10 previous U.S. Men’s Volleyball Olympic Teams and placed them all in a bracket. It is now up the people to decide the best United States team in Olympic men’s volleyball history.
The Off the Block Best of U.S. Men’s Volleyball At the Games is a bracket-style tournament pairing former United States men’s volleyball teams against each other with the winner being determined through online voting on the Off the Block website at offtheblockblog.com/bestofusvolleyball.
The tournament will begin with the two play-in matches on Tuesday pitting the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team versus the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team and the 1964 U.S. Olympic Team versus the 1968 U.S. Olympic Team. The winners of those two matches will advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Each round will last two days with the online polls closing at 10 p.m. (CST). The team that receives the most votes when the polls close will advance to the next round.
An individual will be allowed to vote only once per hour for each match during the tournament.
Off the Block seed the tournament field using a variety of factors including each team’s medal results, overall Olympic record, the team’s roster and strength of victories.
Not included in this tournament is the current 2016 U.S. Olympic Team. The United States will attempt to win the nation’s fourth men’s volleyball gold medal as competes in the Olympic tournament beginning Aug. 8.
