Lewis, NJIT, UCSB recruits win title at USA Volleyball High Performance

Incoming freshmen recruits from a EIVA, MIVA and MPSF team ended their summer with a championship.

Lewis outside attacker Kyle Bugee, NJIT outside attacker Bailey Mundy and UC Santa Barbara setter Randy Deweese led their team to the gold medal at the USA High Performance Championship Boys’ International Youth division last week.


NCVA Junior Red went undefeated at the annual USA Volleyball youth volleyball event, including rallying from a one-game deficit to beat Canada in a decisive fifth game to capture the gold medal. The Northern California team also lost a combined five games in its nine tournament matches.

Along with a gold medal, Bugee and Deweese were among the seven players selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Bugee and Deweese before this tournament both trained with the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team earlier this summer.

This is the third consecutive year that Deweese helped lead his team to a top-five finish at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championship. In addition, Bugee as a member of his high school team he won the section’s Sophomore of the Year award in 2014.
