Two Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshmen All-Americans highlight the players who made the final cut to represent the United States at an upcoming international tournament.
USA Volleyball announced Tuesday its 12-player roster for the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team that will compete at the U21 NORCECA Continental Championship in July.
Both Freshman All-American setter Joshua Tuaniga and Freshman All-American opposite Kyle Ensing earned roster spots after helping lead Long Beach State earlier this year to its first NCAA Tournament berth in almost a decade. In addition, Tuaniga and Ensing were a part of the U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team that reached the U19 FIVB World Championship quarterfinals last year.
Long Beach State was one of three colleges to have multiple representatives on the U.S. roster. Pepperdine and Hawai’i each had two players earn a spot on the team.
Along with these schools, Ohio State, Princeton, Stanford, UC Irvine, UCLA and USC each had player selected to play for the United States.
The U21 NORCECA Continental Championship will begin with the group-play stage on July 3 in Gatineau, Quebec. The winner of this tournament will earn a berth to the 2017 FIVB U21 World Championship.
The United States won the bronze medal at the 2015 NORCECA Continental Championship. In addition, the U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team won the U19 version of the international tournament in 2015.
