What to know: It has been nine years since No. 12 Lewis lost a MIVA Tournament quarterfinal match, but Grand Canyon this season has been all about breaking trends. Lewis will play host to Grand Canyon in the first meeting between the two programs since the Antelopes swept the Flyers in January for their first win in the all-time series history. Grand Canyon closed out the regular season winning six of its last matches, including an upset victory against No. 10/9 Loyola in its conference regular season finale. Outside attackers Gerrard Lipscombe and Shalev Saada also both earned All-MIVA First-Team honors after ending the regular season among the conference leaders averaging 3.20 kills per game. Lipscombe had more than 20 kills in two of the team’s last three matches and led the Antelopes with more than 20 kills in five matches. In addition, Lipscombe had a match-high 17 kills on a .556 attack percentage in the upset win against Lewis. The Flyers, though, in their regular season victory versus the Antelopes held Lipscombe to a negative attack percentage. Lewis returns to the postseason after being one-point away last season from winning the NCAA championship. Opposite Mitch Perinar is among the conference leaders with a 3.03 kills per game average and earlier this week was named the 2016 MIVA Freshman of the Year. Middle attacker Bobby Walsh for the fourth consecutive year also earned All-MIVA honors. Walsh is second in the conference with a .469 attack percentage and in the conference’s top 10 with a 1.11 blocks per game average. The senior also had a combined 16 kills and hit .609 in the two regular season matches against Grand Canyon.
