What to know: It is essentially the postseason for No. 8/9 Hawai’i and No. 11 CSUN this weekend. The Rainbow Warriors and Matadors open their two-match series in the final two spots for the eight-team MPSF Tournament but ninth-place No. 14 UC Irvine is within two matches of both teams in the MPSF standings. CSUN has won four of its last six matches, including pulling off a non-conference road upset against No. 6/6 Penn State last week. Outside attacker Jakub Ciesla in the victory finished with a match-high 19 kills and added three aces. This was the fourth time in the last seven matches that Ciesla had at least 15 kills. Ciesla leads the Matadors and is fourth in the conference with a 3.65 kills per game average. Along with Ciesla, freshman outside attacker Dimitar Kalchev has 39 aces and a MPSF-best 0.61 aces per game. Hawai’i enters this match with two players among the MPSF offensive leaders. All-American outside attacker Sinisa Zarkovic is third in the conference with a 3.90 kills per game average, while freshman outside attacker Stijn van Tilburg is averaging 3.42 kills per game. The Rainbow Warriors have lost eight of nine matches and lost every match during their recent four-match home stand. CSUN with 12 conference matches remaining is attempting to earn its second postseason berth since reaching the NCAA Tournament semifinals in 2010.
