Two players who have competed on their nation’s youth national team will be playing for UCLA in the near future.
UCLA announced Monday that high school seniors Daenan Gyimah and Sam Kobrine have committed to play for the Bruins beginning in 2017.
Gyimah, a 6-foot-8 middle attacker and outside attacker from Toronto, has played for the Canadian Boys’ Youth National Team. He also earned Canadian National All-Star honors and was named one of the top players in the Ontario Volleyball Association.
Kobrine, a 6-foot-3 setter and outside attacker from Corona del Mar, California, spent the summer on the U.S Boys’ Youth National Training Team. In addition, Kobrine earlier this year helped lead his high school team to its second consecutive state championship and was selected to the Volleyball Magazine 25 Underclassmen to Watch list.
UCLA finished last season with a roster primarily comprised of freshmen and sophomores in eighth place in the MPSF and reached the conference tournament quarterfinals. Among the starters returning for the Bruins this upcoming season includes Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshmen All-American outside attackers JT Hatch and Jake Arnitz.
