Hawai’i, Penn State projected to lead nation in travel for 2015

Not all team schedules are created equally, especially when it comes to the amount of travel.

Four teams will travel more than 15,000 miles during the upcoming season, while 11 NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball teams will travel less than 5,000 miles, according an analysis conducted by Off the Block.

Hawai’i will approximately travel a national-high 26,774 miles for its road matches — almost 8,000 more miles than any other team in 2015.

The defending EIVA champions Penn State leads all teams in the continental United States and ranks second overall being projected to travel 18,788 miles for road matches during the upcoming season. In addition, three MIVA teams — Grand Canyon, Ohio State and IPFW — round-out the top five for the most expected travel miles in 2015.

In contrast to these schools, UCLA, Long Beach State, Belmont Abbey and Emmanuel will have the least amount of travel in 2015 with each going less than 3,000 miles.

Check out the projected mileage ranking for how much teams will travel for road matches in 2015.

[Editor’s note: Off the Block for this analysis projected that most teams will travel on bus primarily using highways and main roads for the overwhelming majority of their matches. However based off of geography and previous travel history of teams, flying miles instead of driving miles were used for factoring in the mileage for some road trips.]
