There will be no split decision this season on who is the National Player of the Year.
Outside attacker Taylor Sander after leading BYU to a conference title and NCAA Tournament berth was voted the 2014 Volleyball Magazine National Player of the Year in the magazine’s latest issue released earlier this week.
Sander en route to already earning the AVCA National Player of the Year earlier this year finished the season second in the nation with a 4.60 kills per game average. The All-American senior also was among the national leaders with 55 aces and a finalist for the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Server of the Year.
This is the second consecutive year Sander earned Volleyball Magazine National Player of the Year honors. However, the AVCA in 2013 awarded its National Player of the Year to Long Beach State outside attacker Taylor Crabb instead of Sander, which created a rare situation of different players earning National Player of the Year awards.
Along with winning the 2014 Volleyball Magazine National Player of the Year and 2014 AVCA National Player of the Year, Sander won on Saturday the 2014 Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Fan Choice Player of the Year.
USC outside attacker Lucas Yoder in the magazine’s latest issue also picked up a top individual honor being named the 2014 Volleyball Magazine National Freshman of the Year. In addition, Shane Davis was named the 2014 Volleyball Magazine National Coach of the Year after leading Loyola to the NCAA championship.
Volleyball Magazine along with presenting these top individual awards unveiled its 2014 All-American Teams.
