Initial look at the conference tournament semifinal matches

The conference tournament quarterfinals have wrapped-up and only 12 teams remain in control their own fate to reach the NCAA Tournament.

The postseason continue later this week with the EIVA, MIVA and MPSF Tournament semifinal matches. Check out the initial look and the historical stats to know about every conference tournament semifinal match.

MIVA TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS

No. 1 seed Loyola (25-1, 14-0 MIVA) vs. No. 4 seed IPFW (21-6, 9-5 MIVA)
Match vitals:
7 p.m. Wednesday in Chicago
Season series: Loyola leads 2-0
Last MIVA Tournament title: Loyola (2013); IPFW (2007)
Historical stats to know: The No. 1 seed has advanced to the MIVA Tournament championship match the last eight times. However, Loyola was the last No. 1 seed to not reach the title match when it lost to IPFW in the 2005 semifinals.

No. 2 seed Lewis (22-6, 11-3 MIVA) vs. No. 3 seed Ball State (22-7, 10-4 MIVA)
Match vitals:
7 p.m. Wednesday in Romeoville, Ill.
Season series: Lewis leads 2-0
Last MIVA Tournament title: Lewis (2012); Ball State (2002)
Historical stats to know: Lewis is on a five-match home winning streak against Ball State dating back to 2009. Ball State, though, has won its last three conference tournament matches against Lewis, including rallying from a two-game deficit to beat the Flyers in the 2009 MIVA Tournament semifinals.

MPSF TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS

No. 1 seed BYU (19-8, 18-6 MPSF) vs. No. 4 seed UC Santa Barbara (18-8, 16-8 MPSF)
Match vitals:
7 p.m. Thursday in Provo, Utah
Season series: Tied at 1-1
Last MPSF Tournament title: BYU (2013); UC Santa Barbara (2011)
Historical stats to know: BYU is 17-2 all-time at home in the MPSF Tournament but both loses came against UC Santa Barbara, including a conference tournament quarterfinals loss in 2011. In addition, four of the last five times the Cougars and the Gauchos have played each other the match went to a decisive fifth game.


No. 2 seed Pepperdine (18-6, 18-6 MPSF) vs. No. 3 seed Stanford (21-7, 17-7 MPSF)

5 p.m. Thursday in Provo, Utah
Season series: Stanford leads 2-0
Last MPSF Tournament title: Pepperdine (2005); Stanford (2010)
Historical stats to know: Pepperdine in the last 15 years is 5-1 in the MPSF Tournament semifinals but that one loss occurred in Provo, Utah. Stanford is 3-0 all-time against Pepperdine in the MPSF Tournament with the last victory coming in the 2012 conference tournament quarterfinals

EIVA TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS

No. 1 seed Penn State (22-6, 13-1 EIVA) vs. No. 4 seed George Mason (14-13, 8-6 EIVA)
Match vitals:
7 p.m. Thursday in University Park, Pa.
Season series: Penn State leads 2-0
Last EIVA Tournament title: Penn State (2013); George Mason (1988)
Historical stats to know: Penn State is on a 37-match winning streak in conference tournament play — the longest conference postseason winning streak in NCAA history. George Mason has not defeated Penn State in the EIVA Tournament since 1984 when they swept the Nittany Lions to win the conference championship.

No. 2 seed Harvard (15-7. 11-3 EIVA) vs. No. 3 seed Princeton (15-9, 10-4 EIVA)
Match vitals:
5 p.m. Thursday in University Park, Pa.
Season series: Harvard leads 2-0
Last EIVA Tournament title: Harvard (never); Princeton (1998)
Historical stats to know: This will be the first meeting between the two Ivy League programs in the history of the EIVA Tournament. Harvard before last season had never won an EIVA Tournament match since its program started in 1981, while Princeton has not won a conference tournament match since reaching the 2010 EIVA championship match.

  1. George Mason defeated Penn State in 1988 in the EIVA championship match to advanced to the MCAA semifinal.
