The Long Beach State block turned out to be too much for Penn State’s offense.
Middle attacker Jeff Ornee finished with a match-high seven blocks as No. 2 Long Beach Sate swept Penn State 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 on Saturday in Long Beach, Calif., to close out the Active Ankle Tournament.
Long Beach State in the victory out-blocked Penn State 12.5 to 1 and held the Nittany Lions to a season-low .210 attack percentage.
Along with the defensive performance, Long Beach State All-American outside attacker Taylor Crabb had a team-high 11 kills en route to being named to the All-Tournament Team the tournament’s most valuable player. Ornee and outside attacker Dalton Ammerman, who had 10 kills in the victory, also earned All-Tournament for the 49ers.
