College men’s volleyball players can now submit their vote for a new national award recognizing the nation’s best individual performance.
Off the Block announced Tuesday that it will present the inaugural Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Players’ Choice National Player of the Year. The award will honor the top NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball player from the most recent season and will be solely determined through voting by current college men’s volleyball.
Multiple volleyball organizations present player of the year awards each season that are determined by the coaches, media or fans voting. However, this will be the first player of the year award that is voted upon by the players.
Any player who was on a Division I-II active team roster during the 2013 season is eligible to vote for the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Players’ Choice National Player of the Year.
Players can submit their vote for the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Players’ Choice National Player of the Year three ways, including two social media options.
Players can tweet or direct message their vote via Twitter to Off the Block’s Twitter account, @offtheblock11. In addition, player’s votes can be submitted to the Off the Block Facebook page at facebook.com/offtheblockvolleyball.
A player using his school email address may also cast his vote by emailing Off the Block editor Vinnie Lopes at vinnielopes@gmail.com.
The deadline for a player to submit his vote is 10 p.m. (EST) Wednesday, June 19.
The Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Players’ Choice National Player of the Year is the fourth national award presented by Off the Block this season. Off the Block presented the Preseason All-American Teams at the start of the season and both the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Blocker of Year and Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Server of the Year at the end of the regular season.
This new award was also created in part because of a split decision this season for player of the year. The AVCA named Long Beach State outside attacker Taylor Crabb its National Player of the Year, while Volleyball Magazine named BYU outside attacker Taylor Sander its National Player of the Year.
Off the Block is a website that launched in January 2011 and has become among the nation’s leading media outlets for college men’s volleyball news and analysis.
Springbak, Inc. is the official sponsor of the 2013 Players’ Choice National Player of the Year and produces high performance footwear used by professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB and U.S. Olympic teams and the top college teams in the nation.
