A nationwide voting committee comprised entirely of college men’s volleyball players selected Long Beach State outside attacker Taylor Crabb as the 2013 Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Players’ Choice National Player of the Year.
The Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Players’ Choice National Player of the Year is a new award presented to the NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball player with the nation’s best individual performance during the most recent season.
Crabb finished the season third in the nation averaging 4.18 kills per game and was in the nation’s top 10 with a .353 attack percentage. The junior also earned First-Team All-American honors and was the AVCA National Player of the Year as Long Beach State advanced to the MPSF Tournament championship match.
Multiple volleyball organizations present player of the year awards at the end of each season that are determined by the coaches, media or fans voting. However, the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Players’ Choice National Player of the Year is only major national award that is voted upon by the players.
The voting committee for this award included dozens of current college men’s volleyball from all four Division I-II men’s volleyball conferences throughout the nation. In addition, every player on a Division I-II active roster during the 2013 season was eligible to vote for this award.
Crabb received a majority of first-place votes to beat out the runner-up BYU outside attacker Taylor Sander.
This is the first year of the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Players’ Choice National Player of the Year. Among the other annual awards presented by Off the Block includes the Preseason All-American Teams, the National Blocker of the Year and the National Server of the Year.
