BYU after getting the most conference wins in program history and its first MPSF regular season tittle in almost 10 years has now picked up the top individual conference awards.
The conference announced Thursday that BYU All-American outside attacker Taylor Sander is the 2013 MPSF Player of the Year, while the Cougars outside attacker Ben Patch won the 2013 MPSF Freshman of the Year award.
Sander was among the conference and national leaders with a 3.92 kills per game average and had double-digit kills in all but two of the Cougars’ matches during the regular season. The junior also had 37 aces and in March broke the school record for career aces.
Patch was in the nation’s top 20 with a 3.49 kills per game average, including setting the school’s single-match record with 35 kills in a victory against UC Irvine in February. In addition, the freshman became the first person to win back-to-back AVCA National Player of the Week honors.
BYU and Long Beach State led all teams with six players making an All-MPSF Team, while UC Irvine had five players earn all-conference selections.
