What to know: After both teams won their pool-play opener in five games, the United States and Bulgaria will play each other with the winner moving one step closer to clinching a spot in the second round of the World Championship. The United States defeated Egypt on Friday in a five-game match that lasted almost three hours and had three games go into overtime. Loyola incoming freshman outside attacker Cody Caldwell had 26 kills in the victory and leads all players through the first day of the tournament in kills. In addition, Pepperdine incoming freshman outside attacker Matthew Tarantino had 20 kills against Egypt. Bulgaria enters this match after upsetting No. 1 Argentina in its pool-play opener on Friday. Bulgaria outside attacker Stanislav Velichkov led the team with 18 kills in its opener. If the United States or Bulgaria win this match they can’t clinic a second-round berth and would still have to win its pool-play finale to be assured a spot in the next round.
