Even the Buckeyes’ incoming recruits are winning national championships this year.
Ohio State incoming freshman Michael Henchy helped Spectrum sweep APV 18-Errea 25-18, 25-18 to win the 18-Club Division championship at the 2011 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships on Saturday in Minneapolis.
Spectrum, a volleyball club located in California, was undefeated and lost one set during its 12 matches in the national tournament. Henchy is the only player on Spectrum’s 12-person roster who has committed to play for a Division I-II men’s volleyball team next season, according to middlehitter.com.
Henchy is one of four high school seniors committed to play for Ohio State starting in 2012. The Buckeyes became the first Midwest team to legally win a NCAA Championship as it defeated Penn State and UC Santa Barbara at the Final Four in May.
The USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships is comprised of five open divisions based on age from 14 to 18 years old and seven club divisions from 12 years old to under-18. More than 375 boys’ volleyball teams will participate at this annual weeklong event.
