There is a new No. 1 in college men’s volleyball – and by the slimmest of margins.
Penn State edged out both Long Beach State and UCLA by one point to finish atop the latest Off the Block National Media Poll that was released Tuesday.
Penn State swept a home-and-home series with Ohio State last week to extend its winning streak to a nation-best 11 matches.
This is the first time the Nittany Lions have been ranked No. 1 since the media poll started in 2016. It is also the first time Penn State has ranked No. 1 in any national poll since 2009.
The National Media Poll is the only rankings in NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball solely determined by media members. The 10 teams receiving the most votes are ranked in the National Media Poll, while other schools earning votes but finishing outside of the top 10 are considered teams receiving votes.
A new national media poll is released every Tuesday during the regular season on Off the Block’s website.
